Prison Mutiny (1943)

Playboy Johnny Gray (Edward Norris) is framed and sent to prison after his stolen car is found at a holdup committed by Rico (William Castello as Willy Castello), and while the latter is not suspected, his henchman Harry (Mauritz Hugo), Creeper (Charles Jordan) and Red (Sam Bernard) are convicted with Johnny. Stung by the injustice, when even his fiancee (Inna Gest) believes him guilty, Johnny becomes an unruly prisoner and is put in a cell with Cain (Jack La Rue), head of the prison gang planning a break. The new warden, Frank Sanders (Milburn Stone), wins Johnny over by changing his cellmate and giving him a chance to work in the prison gardens. In an failed escaped, engineered from the outside by Rico, who is killed, one of Rico’s men confesses that Johnny is innocent.

Outer Gate (1937)

Bob Terry (Ben Alexander) is in love with Lois Borden (Kay Linaker) the daughter of his employer, John Borden (Ralph Morgan.) When some bonds are missing from the office, Bob is accused and because of Borden’s strong sense of obligation to his stockholders, Bob is railroaded to prison. A few years later, the real thief is apprehended and Bob is released. He now begins his plan for revenge against Borden with the aid of his prison cellmate Todd (Eddie Acuff) and a gangster, John Carmody (Charles Brokaw.) Soon, some bonds are missing again and Borden knows Bob is involved but because Bob has suffered at his hands before, Borden assumes the responsibility and is about to be sentenced to prison. Todd is shot while trying to steal the bonds back from Carmody, but gets the bonds back to Bob and, before he dies, begs Bob to return them to the owner.

Molly Fitzgerald (Cecilia Parker), who works for Abrams and Co. Jewelers (although the company safe reads “Adams & Co. Jewelers”), is accosted on the street by a stranger who asks her for a date, but her fiance, police officer Terry Mulvaney (Russell Hopton)chases him away. Spike (Jack Gardner), the stranger, is interested in Molly other than for her pretty face; he is a member of a gang of jewel thieves who are planning to rob Abrams (John St. Polis)and want to use her to obtain information regarding the merchant’s shipments of jewels. Through another ruse, gang member Flash Ackroyd (Theodor Von Eltz)gets the information and, through careful planning, frames Terry for the robbery. One of Abrams’ assistants is killed and Terry is charged with robbery and murder. Terry escapes but Molly is fired as Abrams thinks she was in on the robbery. Molly gets a job in a nightclub ran by the gangsters. The train on which Terry is escaping is wrecked and he is transported to a hospital more dead than alive.

Bad Boy (1939)

Johnny Fraser leaves his mother in their small home town and sets out for the big city. He obtains a job with a large firm of architects. Steve Carson, a fellow employee, is constantly flaunting the money he has won at the race track. Johnny also bets the races, but loses heavily and takes some of the firm’s money to cover his losses. Steve also introduces Johnny to Madelon Kirby, a gold-digging night club singer. When the firm’s boss, McNeil, learns that Johnny has embezzled some money, he fires him and has him jailed. Johnny’s mother comes to the aid of her son, but he can not find work when he is released. Through Steve Carson, Johnny becomes the head of a shady firm, Business Engineers, and is making a lot of money. Madelon enters the scene again and she and Johnny are married, and he is unaware that Steve is not only doublecrossing him in the business but with Madelon also.
